From the patch notes for 2.2.1 (build 36800) Well, I've looked and there's an awful lot that i haven't visited.
I decided to change this fact.
So my Cheetah is no longer working for the GBC. It never was much good in that role anyway, what with my living in the wrong timezone for anything EVEish. Now it's just for me as I head off on a pilgrimage that will take me more than a year. By the end of it I plan to have that "Systems I have visited" function glowing across the entire map. I know. Some of you may object to my passage. Bring it on. You are welcome to hunt me though I would prefer if you would just say hi as I go past.
Step one began with the flight from FAT. I was there when Evil Thug DD'd his fleet through the POS shields. Now I'm leaving for ports unknown. 2 jumps out and there's nothing but me and my cloak. 10 jumps and it's quiet as a churchyard. Time to circle wagons, set the cloak and SS for the night.

Now I'm only a few hours into the mission and Catch was nice but I've seen a lot of it already. Impass is nearby and looks ripe. However I seem to have hit a snag. My map is not updating with the places I've been. Gah. Tools are always a problem. Petition raised to see what's going on. So here is where I record my travels, and so that I don't repeat myself I'll finish one region at a time.
Only seen one station so far: "The KillerMiner". It was uninhabitted but the automated process were unfriendly. I moved on.

Impass is slowly turning red. 33 more jumps and I've touched an entire region. I'll have to get a list and start marking it off. Much Russian involvement. One pilot waved to me on the way past and a Tempest waited on a gate to say hello real personal-like. He never saw me fortunately.
Highlight of the night is definitely the station called "S T A L I N G R A D" It looks beautiful.

Damnit. Wandered into a bubble and wasn't paying close enough attention to my cloak. Podded in Y-6B0E by Tim Taylor and Gr3yHunt3r 'grats gentlemen. You'll see me again soon.

Well. Getting back through HED-GP took two goes. Screwed up the first one by turning my cloak on and off again at the incoming gate camp. They were kind enough to let me leave back to empire in my pod.
Second time through and it wasn't too difficult.
Stopped for a break in V-3YG7 to allow a massive BoB fleet to pass through. They weren't very talkative.

Edited by: Jeran Tek on 10/11/2007 06:03:01 Optimize starts to have a hernia around 6-8 waypoints. Anyway. That's not what this post is for. I've finished my first region. I have now seen every system Impass has to offer. There were several friendly pilots including an Argentinian group who discussed, in Spanish, how hard it would be to catch me. I had to imagine the accent when one of them explained in English what they had been discussing "Jeconias tell me. He wanna keeel you." :) In the end they didn't have a bubble so it really wasn't going to amount to much.
Time to find a new region.

I think I'm finding that, Bimjo. I'll stick to my plan of a region at a time and see how I go.
There's a little outstretched piece of Esoteria near Stain, held by the Stain Empire. No conversation but a good defensible bottleneck. Fortunately for me they only had one active pilot at the time I tried to leave. A single Domi is never going to stop a Cheetah. He was obviously waiting for me - as soon as he saw me cloak on the exit gate he went back inside.

Found another unfriendly abandonned station: All Tomorrow's Parties. Who are United Legion, anyway? Obviously not been gone long - there was a cargo container in space. Must have been here in the past couple of hours. Villa Straylight is out there as well. Very blocky station construction in this part of space.
Bikini Bottom is a pretty station. How strange. MWA Logistics has an office there. I wonder what my old alliance is doing out here or if they even remember it's there.
Not much of Esoteria to go.
Highlight of the day is a toss-up between the station Bikini Bottom and getting chased & bubled through my old constellation JSZ. For some reason all my ratting in CR hadn't registered as visited. Had a Crow come within 4km of my poor little cloaked Cheetah while an Heretic was busy with the bubbling. Thank you gentlemen for the rush. I can't name them because the names were in Russian and they didn't talk to me so I don't have them in my logs.

Tagged & bagged Esoteria today.
Trac3rt was a friendly goon. She'll probably get in trouble with her superiors for that ;)
Got my first visitor in the Walkabout channel. Lucas Malbranque dropped in to say hi as I whisked through his system too fast.
Did you know there are whole thriving colonies out in Paragon Soul that probably never see the light of empire? Emptiness for system after system then some little backwater has 20 or 30 people in it.
Paragon Soul is a little region. 60 jumps for every nook & cranny. Where to next?

Will do. It's pretty tragic atm. It's only got 1.5 systems. It seems to lag a couple of days behind what I'm doing.
Anyway, another region fell to the wanderer today. Period Basis should light up soon.
Today's notes:
Oooh. This system has a can on it "Bob Restricted area" I can feel a podding coming on...
Found an MC station with some serious phallic symbolism. First place I've seen that looks like a giant spire. Fortunately the 10 others in system didn't object to my presence too much. Nor did they talk to me at all :(
Later... Jeran Tek > Wow. I come all the way out here, expecting an empty dead-end system and there's 25 in local. Jeran Tek > /emote checks his cloak and prepares to move along, nothing to see here. The Verdict > someone didnt check map =X Icome4u > please keep local clear when we have a red or neutral in system, thank you
The Verdict? I'm not quite that daft :) Icome4u? You are a poo-poo head. Let the troops say hello to an itinerant nobody!

To their credit, one of them did come and say Hi in Walkabout after I'd left.
Anyway, to whet your appetite: Week 1
As you can see (if you know your map REALLY well) Esoteria is about half lit up and Impass is alight. The rest is still dark :( Much of empire is alight. As you can tell, I'm not afraid to travel a bit.

Edited by: Jeran Tek on 12/11/2007 13:23:14 Delve is slowly succumbing to the wanderer. Several attempts to catch me here - none as close as Esoteria yet. If you're going to be an interceptor on a bubble camp you have to react far faster than that!
Today's rambling notes:
Cross cultural good times: Popping into a dead-end system out in Delve there's a couple of germans. I don't speak much German but enough to say goodbye. Here is what followed: Jeran Tek > wiedersehen MarcoHall > besser is das
Did he just say "It's better that way"?
Oooh. A Blood Raider station. I wonder if the faction hates me enough not to let me dock ... Doesn't seem that way even though I'm below -5 after Diplomacy. Good news :)
Has anyone ever mentioned that Delve is big and full of NPC stations which are, in turn, full of angry Russians who don't like neutrals? 120 jumps to go. This is going to be a long region.

Well Delve is done, Fountain is just as big. More people objecting to my presence here. Where "objecting" == "sending Crows and Sabres after me" Not been caught yet. Closest was when I had to dodge all the frozen corpses on the way out from the gate.
I'll leave the map for a few days before I update it.
Notes from today:
Delve is an incredible mix of people from all different sides of EVE. Most of them want to kill the rest of the place and have it for themselves but they're content to keep slaughtering each other indefinitely it seems. When I asked about it this is the response I got:
fantce > we shower each other with flowers and coton candy fantce > come hear ill shower u
I declined politely. I had places to be. Such as: Notify Warping to The Ken Lay Memorial School of Economics Description "In loving memory of the master accountant himself." However it was not an open market. I moved on.
Some imaginative naming going on out here: The School of Machiavellian Philosophy The Tin Foil Hat Assembly Plant
Here endeth the Delving.
Went to Serpentis Prime today. Fountain is the next region on my list. Serpentis Prime has some cool Caldari & Minmatar NPC stations
Found a Warning Sign within a gate that says "Warning. Watch out for the sign" Awesome.
RIP DarkElf. Found his memorial station tonight. Respect.

Well, there's my first lag-death. I can see plenty more where that came from. Arrived at a gate with 3 little ships, no bubble. Shouldn't be a problem. Check my angles, pick a direction to go off in. Start ship, F1, F2 to activate the MWD & cloak. Nothing. Ship starts moving and decloaks but modules don't fire. Ships start targetting. I'm dead. Not a chance once that happens. MWD finally kicks in and Aura says "You are unable to cloak because you are being targetted" That's nice, Aura, but my cloak should have been active 7 seconds ago when I asked you to do it. Oh well. Now how to get back out to the middle of Fountain in the current situation.

It's been a busy day. I was stuck at home watching some nice men install an Air Conditioner. Nothing to do but flit around in EVE. So: Outer Ring is boring - nothing happens there, nobody talks much, at least not the times that I was there. The one highlight was a station type I've not seen before. Cloud Ring is similar - pretty small and not very populated at my playtimes. The one Russian I saw said I was lucky all his countrymen were asleep.
Pure Blind? What is it with this place?? It's full, by which I mean I met at least 6 of these guys, full of people flying some sort of Interdictor with nothing better to do than fly around hoping they'll find a lone frigate of some sort to kill. Salute to all you Pure Blind pilots - you live in an active gank zone. Plenty of fun to be around. In addition the natives are always willing to chat (when they're not baying for your blood) so there's plenty of friendly people out there.
Ah well... on to Fade next.
I got a good shot of that green skyscraper I keep talking about too but this would have to be my winner so far: Mordu's Legion

Oh yes. Notes from today: Awww ... isn't that cute? "ATF Territory: Unauthorized Tresspassers Are Prohibited" on a small secure can. I wonder if they mean me? Hmmm ... found another one. So am I inside or outside their territory now?? And another, and another. Oh I'm so confused.
And that's it for Cloud Ring. Hardly worth the bother, really.
Pure Blind promises to be more interesting. I hope. First docakble station of the trip. Woohoo! Hitchhikers fans with Freelancer leanings are the best!
Scary moment for the day - activating a gate and finding a Sabre coming through the other way. He turned around pretty fast. Came within 6km on the exit on the other side, too.

Escobar, the cat a mouse is always a pleasure. A man can be judged by the tenor of his foes.
I'm beginning to think I severely overestimated the magnitude of this task. So far in 9 days I have visited 11 entire 0.0 regions. I noticed this because the great ring around the edge of the galaxy contains 22 regions. I feel like I'm half-way through the first leg of my journey.
Missing 4 whole regions - I was busy today: Impass to Outer Ring

Well if http://eve.allakhazam.com/db/map.html is right about the number of systems in each region then: There are 66 regions and 5382 systems. I have completed 11 regions comprising of 706 systems. That is 17% of the regions and 13% of the systems.
I am going to have a problem though - 3 of the regions are in Jove space. Never mind. Cross that bridge when I come to it.

Hmmm ... Tenerifis is about 12 systems away on my current plan. If you still remember who I am by then, look me up.
And now I have to say a big hello and thank you to the lovely pilots from CPU and BLOB alliances. The gate camp you ran out there in Branch was top-notch. Theif it, I appreciate the advice to log for 12 hours but where is the point in that? Play time on the weekends is short enough as it is. Anyway, if Aertes had been a couple of km further down the bubble then I would have been toast. As it was the decloaking was very close to the wire. You need to find a way to get the fighters to orbit a bit further out from the gate. By the time I was in range of them I was close enough to jump. GG :D
Now a couple of other things: how many carriers did you have in system? I couldn't count all the fighters but it has to have been at least 2. The 'ceptors with the fighters in tow were your best chance to catch me but they need to mix up their orbits a bit. I think you can just give the orbit command again and it will pick a different line.
Thanks again gentlebeings. Best fun I've had on this trip so far. Of course I was far too pumped to take any photos. I will have to get better at that.

Thank you Ironass. Pleasure to chat with you.
Well, Branch was definitely the most interesting stage of the journey so far. I was starting to think I would get bored with seeing the same things over and over, then they throw a party with 20-30 ships, complete with a Large Mobile Warp Disruptor II and fighter-wielding interceptors.
Later in the day it was more calm with some nice conversations from Razor and Mostly Harmless pilots. They all wanted to warn me about Morhus Mihi or some such down in Tribute but that's aworry for another day. They're inside the outer ring from here so I won't be there for at least a month, probably more like 2 or 3.
Sadly Branch is now behind me, and Tenal ahead. What wonders await in the depths of the North?

Yup. Completely right on all accounts. Tenal ofered the opportunity for me to meet GAGEO - a bunch of nomads who were hanging out in the region as I passed through. There were few actual residents around for any of my fly-bys.
Now the map gets interesting. I was hoping CONCORD would have gotten around to naming these regions before I got here. Into the Drone chaos I go...

As you can see by the visitors Mostly Harmless and Rule of Three seem to be the residents in the Drone region I wandered through yesterday. They were mostly friendly and only a few of them tried to hunt me. No bubbles so obviously they were just out to play.
And Phoenix, I did come and say hi to your outpost. It was on the visit before the one where you said Hi though. I'll usually warp in at 20-30km to watch the Hulks scramble home and get decent photos. I'm getting a bit blase about the different conquerable stations by now. I have a great screensaver though - it flicks through all the different images in my EVE screenshots directory.
Fairly scant notes from the past few days:
Santiago Fahahrri ... interesting group. I must learn more.
How strange. An empty system with 4 Mobile Large Warp Disruptor I's and a GSC labelled "Told you not to =)". No one else in system.
Into the Drone lands. A frindly warning from Hyuman that I will be shot on sight. At least they talk to you out here.

6HL8-L has been seen. The natives are a talkative bunch. Very monocultural out here at the moment. Possibly because there aren't any shooting wars going on. Down south there was always a spy or cyno alt or something around that didn't match the sov of the area. Here they're almost all from the same groups.
Notes from the field: New region. First station I found is Ka-Tet. Friendly enough but "move along please, we don't want to have to shoot you."
There's a system here more than 180AU from gate to gate. Poor little Cheetah only does 90 on a full cap. At least it's easy to make a deep safe.
Today's fun - watching a Domi unload and abandon drones for an Ishkur to pick up. At least, I don't think the Ishkur has the drone space for 5 drones...
Gravydoo from Rampage Eternal asked for a special mention. o/
It's very monocultural out here. Down south there are always weirdos from other alliances hanging around in little dead-ends, presumably cyno alts or spies or the like.
QFRV-2 had a gang of 4 who logged the moment I arrived. I wonder what they were up to??

I've just seen VU-WU2 (who names these places, anywawy??). I must have been flying in the Russians' downtime because I saw almost no residents. Those few I did find almost all had cyrillic BIOs. I'm guessing this is going to be the norm for the rest of the circuit.
The only thing of interest was the system H4X-01. Do I hear h4XXorz amongst the drones?

One more thing. It appears that a couple of the systems I visited early on haven't been flagged. I can see in my chat logs that I entered them but they're not lit up. I've seen 1 confirmed and 3 more I need to check on another machine (I play from more than one so my chat logs are in multiple places). If it stays at only a few I'll head out and touch them again when I'm done with this circuit.

Apparently the map was only fixed recently. I'm kinda testing that :)
Anyway. Cache is a small place. The locals are friendly and don't ty to shoot you much. Plenty of Cyrillic in the BIOs again.
Notes from the day: Small can on a gate with "Through this gate lies The Dungar Zone" There are others scattered around the area: "Highway to the Dungar Zone", "Now leaving the Dungar Zone" I finally took a look at one. It was dropped by Dungar Loghoth :)
Cache is pretty small. The locals reasonably friendly (all of them waved rather than opening fire) but not English speaking as a rule.

Detorid is quiet this time of day. Few locals other than the station system I saw earlier. Nice treat there though. Got a photo of a Thanatos leaving the station. Always fun to watch. They were wary but friendly enough. I guess 1 Cheetah isn't a threat to a Thanatos :)

Detorid seems smaller than it is. Maybe I didn't have to backtrack nearly as much as I have been. Off to Tenerifis. Anyway. Goons have been nice. Several stopped to chat and I got a good photo of a Thanatos at one station :) Today's milestone - seeing Detorid moved me from 24% to 26% of the galaxy visited. Over a quarter of the way there in only 3 weeks!
Notes from today: While I was sitting planning my route through Insmother: vincent011 > I think you should leave as soon as possible. . . Otherwise there will be a lot of people want to kill you. . You understand. .
This place is HUGE! 110 systems, 160 jumps to see it all. Here endeth the mother.
Found a system in Detorid: FR4G-E "frage" = German for "Question"
Found a friendly goon as well. SamHandwich let me know I should watch out for his buddies who would operate on an NBSI policy and weren't as nice as he was. Always pleasant to find someone so concerned for my wellbeing :) Giacomo Carissimi was happy to sit and listen to war stories too. I'm starting to like it around here.

Feythabolis is behind me. Only Omist remains from the initial 22 regions. It was pretty quiet.
Notes from today: Nothing much of note in this part of Feyth. unless you count the station "Ebay Prime"
I met RedTechie today who suggested I was EVE's equivalent of "Desert Bus". At least I can take breaks when I want to.
"Freebooter's Haven" in BJD4-E is still a fixed complex. Plenty of big Angels in the first room. I wonder what it's like further in...

Wrote a long and involved comment about coming to the end of Omist and my 22-region loop around the outside but the forums ate it because I took too long. So that's it. I'm 35% through the regions and 30% through the systems. Time to move inwards to the 0.0/Empire boundary. This could get hairy.

Something useful from the economic Dev Blog: "Overall there are 227 outposts owned by 114 corporations in 0.0 space where there are almost 2,900 solar systems."
From my point of view that means I'm more than half-way through my 0.0 wanderings. I've been to over 1500 systems in 0.0

Not a lot to see in Immensea. The natives are mostly French or Russian speaking so not much to talk about either.
My travelling notes reveal a couple of bright points: Whoops. Just came out of a dead-end system and noticed a can that said "Warning!!! Next system is closed for the visits!!! No jumping to QN-6J2!!!" One day I'll pay more attention to those things ... but not today.
Immensea is pretty quiet this weekend. half way 'round and I've found fewer than 10 people.
Gotta lotta TCF around this area. Not much conversation in English. Quite a bit of United Legion. I suppose I have a choice between learning French or Russian.
Dodged a Crow on a gate and got this in local: [12:57:44] Vandalzzz > wanna round 2? [12:58:06] Vandalzzz > jump back
I told him where I was going next and waited for him but his phone rang and it was my bed time so we never got the rematch.

4th Death today wandering through Catch. Connection started playing up. I should know better.
Congrats "misses x" on killing a stationary Cheetah with a Vagabond :) Did you know IAC lets you dock if you pay up? I paid 400 ISK for the privelege of chatting with them afterwards. And I got my revenge. The Ibis I was given on docking did at least 6 points of damage to someone when I left.
Far more respect to General Grendal - at least it was combat :)

I'm taking a break for a day or two - It's going to take a bit for me to start trusting my connection again - so I'm flying around touching Tash Murkon. It's been my home for so long as a mission runner that you'd think I'd covered most of it but no. I have over 120 jumps to visit all the untouched stars.
Still, it's one of the bigger places. It'll kick me over 33% when I'm done :)

Well, back in the "interesting" area of space. Only a couple of half-hearted attempts to stop me - the usual 1 or 2 intys on a gate, an occasionaly mobile bubble. That kind of thing. A set of 5 or 6 BCs on a gate just counts as loitering with intent to become target practice. I met that twice.
Great Wildlands has been visited. Geminate beckons. It's a little smaller so maybe I can get through it quickly before I head back into the Drone lands.
Notes from the last couple of days:
Catch is ahead of me. There are already lines across it. So many systems here. At least I should get started.
There's an IAC station. Did you know you can charge a docking fee? This place wanted to.
Here endeth my Catch notes for now. Disconnected and destroyed. I'll be back later.
Tash Murkon. Someone kill me. Kill me now. This agony must end.
Great Wildlands now. Decent sized gatecamp on the 0.0 entry. They were friendly enough. At least 2 of them waved: [22:51:30] Elitist > .i. [22:52:18] Ekaterina Evelina > ..|.. -__- ..|.. Elitist was flying the Flycatcher.
OJOS-T is 270+ AU across There's a can at one of the gates: "In memory of all the brave pilots who have lost their lives attempting to traverse the chasm" :)
What is it with this place and big crowds in dead-end systems? That's the 4th I've found with nothing on the overview and 15+ people in local.
Great Wildlands is done. Geminate or filling in the Drone lands. Geminate I think - nice and small. lol ... the last system in the Great Wildlands tells me "You are now leaving the Dungar Zone"

Vale of the Silent is big. 118 systems. 180 jumps to see it all. Wow. Got under way. 150 to go. Sometimes this task feels huge.
Notes, as promised: Geminate. I like ROADKILL.
[07:42:06] Riddal > group hug at the gate before you go!
There are some named systems in Geminate. When I got to Roua I had to do a double-take to make sure I hadn't wandered off course somehow. Hmmm. There must be a story behind why it is the only named system in a 0.0 region.
An Arazu followed me for a bit but I warp faster :)
You can see my abortive attempt at Catch if you look closely.

Vale of the Silent is over. That would have hurt if Trinity hadn't arrived in the middle. I spent the last 100 or so jumps cloaking, & uncloaking, & cloaking again just to see the effect. Oh and the stations are all new & stuff. Life is good. With that done though my stats are looking up. 40% of all systems, 67% of 0.0 systems, 43% of the regions. I think low-sec is going to be the hardest to do. Enough danger that I have to pay attention. Little enough to be uninteresting. Ah well. Cross that gate when I come to it.
Not many notes from today: Hydra are a boring lot. Hardly a word between them.
System called P3EN-E looks disturbingly like e-peen to me.

Salute to Morsus Mihi. I'm in Tribute now and they have been the quickest to respond to my presence by far.
I entered their space and there was a Sabre nearby. He kept harassing me as I went further in. 2 systems later I found a station hub and as is my wont I went to photograph it.
While I was there they launched a Flycatcher, an Eris, and a Thanatos (great photos, btw) along with various other ships. They stationed the 'dictors on the gates out and set the fighters escorting ships around them. Eventually I chose an exit route (following my pre-ordained path) and managed to hit the gate while his bubble was down.
That wasn't the end of it. The ships on that gate followed me through and launched a bubble straight away. I managed to evade them on that exit but they got a couple of ships with drones within 12km.
That system was a 2-gater so they knew where I was going and set up on the gate beyond. New graphics weren't being nice so FPS was low while the bubbles were up but usually that was after I'd given my move & cloak commands.
Thanks pilots. That was the best entry to a region I've had yet. May Tribute continue to deliver.

Well, Tribute settled down after that. Only a few half-hearted attempts to chase me down in a 'dictor from Morsus pilots. I'll say one thing for the place. It was never boring. A good variety of stations to take new pictures of too.
But as is the way of all good things they must eventually come to an end. Tribute is complete. I just passed my 2000 count of unique 0.0 systems visited. Less than 1000 to go :)
Notes are sparse again: Morsus Mihi made my entry to Tribute intersting. Sabre, Eris, Flycatcher, Thanatos were amongst my welcoming party. 3 systems they chased me across.

Well, Venal is behind me. And I have a week of traveling so intermittent EVE. JT is resting in an implant clone in empire for the week. Shaves 1.5 days off this week's training. The Raven sitting there looks awesome too. Maybe I'll get some hours in this week and take it out for a mission run. There was one little scare in Venal coming from my own stupidity. My notes from the time say it best: Got a picture of an Archon today - warping to Cynos is fun.
I wonder how many people make a pilgrimage to the Haj (H-AJ27)?
I must not watch my wife's TV programs while in 0.0. I must not watch ... Tried to slip away from a gate that I just warped to when there was a sabre on it. Of course that turned OFF my cloak, not on. Dumb. At least I only lost armour in the process. I dived through the gate and got away. And then I was in Gurista space so there were NPC stations to dock at. 100,000 ISK and an anxious moment getting out of the station and the journey continues. Phew.
Not quite more lit up than not ... but it's getting close.

What makes you say that? That I would start doing this? or because I've kept doing it? Everything in EVE is something to do. I spend a lot of time jumping, sure, but then I get times of panic when I run into a sabre or, worse, a full-fledged gate-camp. Or I wander into a system and chat in local and meet interesting people, watch their Hulks panic and race to the station, etc. I've taken part in large fleet combat. I get more excitement doing this than I do in fleet fights.

On the road again. RL travels have ended so EVE travels may begin again. A quick exit fromthe Guristas station where my JC had been hibernating and we are away. Tip for that one - if you want to dock at an NPC station in 0.0, put a bookmark at least 250km (and preferrably a couple of AU) directly out in front of the docking bay. That way when you undock you can warp before anyone can target you.
No-one was outside anyway but in the long run it's always easier being careful than being sorry.
Now I'm hanging out in the Drone lands again. Nothing much to say tonight. I started too late to travel much, just enough to get into a SS rather than a station.
Someone dropped in to the Walkabout channel today and asked what is the most interesting (or some of the most interesting) thing(s) I had seen. That's a really hard question to answer.
Some of the stations are breathtaking, especially when you see them for the first time. I'm still in 2 minds about the graphics update. The stations look better but not as pretty.
If you've read the 4 pages of wandering thought above you've had a taste of some of the things I've found interesting.
By far the most fun is when a group of people take offense to my presence (in an impersonal way) and try to hunt me down or chase me out. Even better is when they're willing to talk about it afterwards.
There are beautiful sights (blue stations!), unexpected sights (a combat arena out in 0.0?), and I'm looking forward to making it to Genesis one day to see the EVE gate and a few of the named systems out there.
It's often interesting from a player-base point-of-view to enter a system and be told "Traffic Control is offline" because that means you're the first player there since the last DT. There are plenty of systems that don't ever see a player in the normal course of events. I've been there now.
Anyway, it's late, I'm writing instead of sleeping. It's good to be back.

As you may have noticed, I'm on the move again.
S-I6VU is behind me. The locals weren't very talkative ingame but it may have been the speed with which I was running from them :) The one station system I stopped in for a bit started spewing ships like it was having digestive trouble. I left before they could get organised.
As you can see above many of them have dropped in here to say hello.
Just one note from today: Found a station today "Darkelf The World is Yours" I wonder if that's the same Darkelf. There's a Darkelf memorial station in Delve.

Back in the saddle after the Christmas / New Year debacle that is family life. Started around Etherium Reach. Intrepid Crossing made a half-hearted attempt to stop me but nothing serious. Seeing the Thanatos on the gate when I jumped into one of their station systems was a gut-stopping moment but he was attended by a Raven and a bunch of T1/T2 drones. An Ares came out to play when I hung around the station for a bit but still no dictors. The best fun was the guy who asked me if he could kill me - he'd made a bet that he'd put me in a new frigate. He chased me in a Merlin. I kept telling him which gate I'd just warped to so he would at least keep somewhere close behind me. Ah well, nothing much interesting has happened on the Goon side of Etherium.

Just to keep things straight, I don't need donations and I'm not looking for donations. I have plenty of cash from my mission running and can go back there for top-ups if such becomes necessary.

Malpais - mostly a lot of silence. So much back-tracking though. The whole place is 102 systems that took me 177 jumps to see. That's probably my worst percentage yet.
Anyway. Another couple of milestones - 8 Drone regions visited (I'll give Outer Passage one last try!). Over 50% of the systems in EVE are now covered by regions that I have visited all of.
Not much of 0.0 to go.
Notes from today: Found a can labelled "STOP!!! Арендованно! (i nicked this from some russians, thought i'd leave it here)" Anyone know what that means (the cyrillic bit).
NB0-00? I want my Natalie Portman! 13-49W - most numbers in a system name? Hmmm ... 63-7Q6 too ... and W5-205. I give up until I find one with 5 numbers.

I've been in blue-space for too long. Most of the way through Scalding Pass and I almost rode up the tail-pipe of a Flycatcher. Fortunately he didn't know I was close to the gate but we came within 7km of each other. For a Cov Ops that's almost spitting distance and far too close for comfort.
So far stupidity and lag are neck-and-neck at 2 kills each. I can feel another death through stupidity coming on. Not today, fortunately, but complacency will kill me one day soon...

Well, Scalding Pass is now Scalding Passed.
Final jump was a bit hairy. Moving to Curse for the start of the next phase and I'm about to warp to the H-ADOC gate (fishing, anyone?). There's a bunch of neutrals in system but I've been warping around for over an hour now. I warped straight to the gate before checking local, then noticed it and hoped that they weren't bubble camping.
Do you know what it feels like to warp into a gate with combat sounds going on. Before you even come out of warp? Scary times but I should know better. If they're already fighting it's unlikely that they'll have time to look for a Cov Ops. They didn't have a bubble up and the Inty / Drake gang was happily pounding away at an Abaddon so I stuck around for the inevitable. The guy managed to get his pod out. That's my cue to leave 'cause all those drones & intys are going to want something to do soon and hiding right on the gate can be detrimental to your health.
Now for Curse and the beginning of my sweep across the inner-south regions.

Heh. Thanks for dropping by and the comments. I've never seen anyone cybering in space but you never know. I've had some quick logoffs and I always just assumed they were farmers...
I had one of those moments today when you realise things are not quite right. It wasn't in-game though. It was when I recorded the trips through Scalding Pass and Curse. Yes. Seen them both now. Curse is insane, more on that later. I've been reporting my 0.0 percentage complete based on my original calculations of the number of 0.0 systems. It appears I'd left a few out. This became obvious when I only had 100 or so systems to go and still haven't visited Stain or Syndicate (over 100 each).
So I spent some quality time with Ombey's maps (3.42 for the Drone region name updates!) and reclassified all my systems. I also updated my tracking spreadsheet so that it automatically counts 0.0 systems separately from the total count and works out the percentage for me :)
So now I think I have it right. I've visited 37 regions, of which 36 were 0.0 That's 59% of the total or 88% of 0.0 Those regions contained 2872 Systems, again 2769 were 0.0 That's 56% of the total and 84% of 0.0
There are 5 Null-sec regions to go: Catch (108), Providence (84), Querious(95), Stain (132), and Syndicate (106).
A virtual setback but I will overcome it. The end of 0.0 is definitely in sight now.

As for Curse. Ouch. The stations are beautiful, the residents ... not so much. My first sighting of a Phobos earlier this week has been quickly followed by several Onyxes, and a couple of others. The best attempt was made by a HIC accompanied by a number of Ishtars (I didn't get the exact count but it was at least 4). On my arrival the Ishtars bracketed the spot I declaoked and started swapping drones with each other. They managed to criss-cross the space I had been in quite nicely.
Fortunately for me I had moved 5 or 6km outside the bracket in the few seconds it took them to set it up so they missed but it was a scary moment to see all those objects flitting around so close.
It was a dead-end station system too so the only way out was past the camp they had. Unfortunately RL intervened and I had to put the kids to bed. When I got back an hour later I was 5000km off the gate in a random direction and they'd packed up the camp and gone home. Departure was uneventful.

Finally to answer "what's your favourite region?" I'd have to say the North East has been the most friendly and the South the most interesting / hair raising.
There have been individual exceptions to that, with much props to Morsus Mihi for their dedication and over-reaction to a single Cov Ops (hunting a Cov Ops with a carrier, several interdictors and assorted other ships does seem a little excessive, at least from the Cov Ops' pilot's point of view!)

Well, Catch was ... intersting. A standings mixup has been semi sorted now so I no longer assume everyone around me is friendly. Kinda freaky flying through a system full of blues and have them treat me as red. Good thing my natural paranoia means I didn't try to cozy up to any of them.
I haven't been logged the last couple of posts so my notes weren't available. There's quite a bit in them now so I'll dump it here just to keep the size down :)
On to Querious! (makes me think of Don Quixote for some reason)
Curse. Archangel and Serpentis stations everywhere. Nearly got myself killed by rats because I forgot to jump and was watching my wife play a game on her 'puta next to me. She's more dangerous than the gate camps...
Moved through OSHT-A today. Isn't there a corp named after this place?
The Angels have some pretty stations. Pity they don't like me very much. Seems the same with the residents. Either that or they don't like anyone very much. Not a great deal of conversation to be had, even in busy systems.
Jorund? Utopia? What are named systems doing out here?
Hmmm ... in Catch now. F4R2-Q. It's just asking to be F4R-Q2!
Finished Catch now too. IAC gets points for the best response to my presence so far: [14:20:34] Darkmist Starpain > Ooooh tourists! [14:20:45] * Darkmist Starpain dusts the chair and table quickly

It was a pleasant evening and well worth the delay. I'm carrying those items now ... until I get podded again :)

Well, Querious is behind me. Nothing nearly as exciting as seeing 2 Titans happened in the rest of the trip. Saw my first Amarr HIC (a Devoter) though. Just 3 0.0 regions to go - Stain, Solitude, and Syndicate. I've parked tonight in 0.6 in Khanid. It's a strange feeling having all those CONCORD ships around. I haven't posted this in a while - Lots of coloured in bits :)

Right. Off to Stain because it's a big hole in my map. Of course to Stain from Khanid goes through HED-GP. Nasty business that but this time the lag monster didn't get me. The next most dangerous thing in there is running into frozen corpses on the gate. Still I made it through and I'm in Stain now - 200+ jumps to see it all. The whole place is a whole long series of dead-ends that I have to fly out and back.
Bleah. Biggest jump chain so far to see a single region.

Well, I broke the back of the Stain journey today. 200+ jumps to see it all and I'm down to less than 65. It's all red. It's all good. I've missed the adrenaline and the gatecamps of late.
Notes from today: What a lovely place this is. At least that Russian Lady was very nice. Lost Eve, thanks for the chat.
B-G1LG. Makes me think of BillG.
Some strange things going on out here. 100+ people in systems deep down a dead-end. LOTS of BSs left while I was in system. I wonder where they were going. At least none of them got a chance to shoot at me. Cloaking didn't get lagged out this time :)

Well, Stain is behind me. I dread to think what the big Empire regions are going to be like! There were a number of camps around but really nothing that got my heart racing. Either I'm getting better at this (or less worried about things I should be!) or they really aren't trying hard in Stain.
There was a system in Period Basis about 3 jumps from the end of my Stain wander that hadn't been tagged. It was on the border so it's possible that I missed it the first time through. A good place to lay over for the night. Of course when I got there I found a Safe Spot I made on the first trip through. So not only have I been here before but I've slept here too. Maybe this time it'll work.
Notes from today: I'm learning to hate gate camps on the entrance gate to a dead-end constellation. There's no trouble getting IN through them ... I just know I'll have to go out again in 5 or 6 jumps.

Hey Celestra. Welcome, as always :)
I'm beginning to realise that my map will never be fully lit up. Systems I've visited is always 2 Downtimes behind my actual visit so staying around in an area to ensure the lights go on is not a practical way to travel and now that I look around the map there are some noticeable dots not lit up.
Having checked that one in Period Basis only to find out that not only have I been there before but I've parked there and dropped a Bookmark?? The function works reasonably well but it's not perfect.

Having said all that, I'm not about to abandon the quest just because my tools aren't perfect! Syndicate is behind me. Another hot-bed of NPC stations and mixed up corp relations. Syndicate is unusual though. Almost all the stations are respectable empire corps - Aliastra, TransStellar, Trust Partners (perhaps not so respected). NPC 0.0 is usually Angels, Sanshas, Guristas, and the like.
The usual gate camps abound. Mostly 2 or 3 ships including a single HIC, a fast mover, and maybe one other. Nothing threatening, really. How times have changed. Comparing that description to my first encounters with 0.0 gatecamps. My heart started racing, my hands got sweaty. Now I just pray that the lag won't stop my cloak from activating. That's pretty much the only thing that would catch me out here.

If 0.0 was a test of endurance, Empire hopping is a test of patience. I can AP through high-sec and ignore local in low sec. Just keep jumping, just keep jumping. What do we do? We jump, jump, JUMP!
Khanid is done. Aridia will have to wait for another day.

Oooh. Genesis. Maybe I'll finally get to see the EVE gate. And there's a certain something I want to go check out.
The place is a mess though. It interlinks all over the place and that makes it hard to pick the best route through. However I have to trade off the time spent staring at the map with time I could be jumping. I don't mind a little backtracking if it saves 20 minutes spinning the map. Of course DT intervened in my map making. Have to finish it later.

Well. I thought it would be boring. However there's boring and then there's boring. Genesis took me a lot of game time to get through. Not because it's a huge and tangled mess of systems that I couldn't navigate through efficiently, though that contributed. I spent at least an hour, probably 2, hanging around in New Eden enjoying the pretty colours and trying to go further than anyone else had.
Did you know there are invisible walls in space that you can't see past? Just as you think you've gone further than the rest there's another "room" full of cans that weren't there a moment ago. I'll go back there one day with an inty and travel 10km/s instead of 2
I'd include the notes but Tranq is being cantankerous and won't start on time.

Wow. It's been a week since I went travelling. A corp-mate was alone in 0.0 doing some solo gas mining and asked for help. I was only 60 or 70 jumps away so a couple of hours later I had bought myself a Domi and went to join him. I think I was making about 500,000 ISK a minute and I'm only up to 2 Gas Harvesters. I think I have a profession to go back to when I get bored of wandering :)
Anyway it took me a while to get back to the Cheetah but back I am. Now to find another low-sec area to meander through. I'm thinking Solitude is a nice quiet-sounding area.
Thanks for the info about the Angels. There are a number of strange bits and pieces in the corners of our galaxy and it's nice to know a bit more about that one.

Solitude? One horse town. Not even a pub to liven it up. Been and gone in an hour once I actually got there. Moved on to Verge Vendor. The route is through Solitude. Watch out for that 6-CZ gate camp on the Reblier gate.
There were 6 or 8 ships there. I didn't count too closely. A bunch of drones, some cans on the bubble in places but nothing coordinated. An alliance mate was in system but leaving again by the other gate but I decided to go through - around is not an option generally. It doesn't help that the gate isn't near any celestial objects. Have to warp there blind without the benefit of Scanning. With only a 'dictor bubble it's hard to place your decloakers accurately so my warp from an unlikely planet was undisturbed, even though I got sucked in to the bubble. After that it was an easy walk to the gate and low-sec. Blessed bubble-free low-sec.
System Threat Level: Moderate.

Verge Vendor is another blinkable region. Perhaps Essence will provide some more interest. One thing it did provide is the xxx Encryption Methods books. Placid completed. It completely lived up to its name. I don't even have any notes. I'm finding Empire's like that. No-one waches local so I get no responses from hails. So much so that I've given up hailing new systems as I enter. I can't be bothered flying to every NPC station. They just aren't interesting enough. Nothing like watching a bunch of Hulks run for cover as my Cheetah flies into their system :) Mission running is done. It's tough at the moment 'cause my alliance is in 2 wars so mission running in empire is far more dangerous than ratting out in our 0.0 space. Anyway. 2 missions & 40m ISK later I'll get back in the saddle. A couple of spare ships is plenty for this part of the trip. Lonetrek next - that's the mission hub I chose so that's the region I'll explore.

Well. It's done. 5152 systems. Roughly 8000 jumps. probably 12000 minutes of playtime. 4 Cheetahs. 3 pods.

My life is now complete. I caused Tarminic to comment on my thread.
And as for now I have two things to do. 1) Wait until tomorrow's downtime for my map to update and paste it on the front page. 2) Go find those pesky systems that didn't register on "Systems I've visited" and fill them in. There's about 15-20 of them scattered around the galaxy. 300 or 40 jumps. Meh :)

I have screenies of every different 0.0 station type, from several different angles, from before and after Trinity. It started getting too repetative to take photos of every station although I did go and look at all of them - too much fun watching haulers run for cover from my Cheetah of DOOOOOM! I have a few of NPC stations, particularly where they're not the ones I normally see around empire.

That's an excellent question. I had 2 years worth of skills to train up that I already had at some level so I wasn't short of things to train on the trip. Once I got back to empire I started buying the skills that I had finished pre-reqs for while in the outback but only when passing through school systems. Caldari BS 5 was the longest. The rest were mostly L4 skills.

Robban, you need to read the rest of the thread. I point out some areas of interest on the way through. Good luck getting there in a shuttle though. And I mean that sincerely. There's a decent thread about the highlights of empire space where there are some sights to see. That wasn't my main objective - I was more like those tourists who go to see "Europe" in a week. If nothing else go see the EVE gate.

Wow. News about me :)
IM was a vague inspiration before I started so I'm not surprised that people mention him. However he was a story teller. I'm merely a technician with wanderlust :)

There are a couple of ways to 1-up this in terms of sheer OCD-related demonstrations of extreme patience. Not many and not easy, but a couple.
1) Visit every station. I think I went to every 0.0 station but the empire & low-sec ones tried my patience too much. 2) Visit every gate. 3) Traverse every gate in each direction. 4) Make deep safes in each system. I only safe-spotted the big systems or the places I slept. That came to about 300 or so. That's only 10% of nul-sec.
There you go. Good luck to those who would like to follow ;)

The news from Empyrean Age just keeps getting better: "The Cheetah has had its model changed. It will now use the Probe hull instead of the Vigil Hull."
So now, not only do I have to fly a new set of 60 systems, but I'll be in a different hull without having to do any more training. Cool :)

On the road again. Interesting to see my first faction warfare zone. Lots of Caldari Control Bunkers around, and beacons for various missions.
It's low-sec though. 43 more jumps and I'll be back where I was ... having seen it all. |

Oh, and on the way in I found another arena with Stalagtites for the boundaries and 2 stations. Called "<something> The Trial Arena" The <something> escapes me right now... it's late. |

Mostly I've just ignored them but ... how can a military beacon be called "Fathers and Sons"?? It's in Teimo if you want to go look - just a bunch of Caldari state ships there that I could see.

Heh. Thanks. Yes, I was happy - not only did I get new systems to fly in but I got a whole new ship to do it in, without even docking at all... They changed my Cheetah hull to be like a Probe. Despite the noise on the forum I personally like it better than the Vigil hull.
Oh, and Janjan? Empire is not really a good way to start this. It is so mind-numbingly boring to fly from system to system in empire that you WILL stop the effort before you get very far. The only reason I kept going in empire space was because I had already finished 3500+ systems and it seemed a waste not to do the last 1500. Train for a Cov Ops, and a good cloak, store up about 150m ISKies. Head outback, see how long you can keep going before you need to earn some more cash. |
